Police Apologize for Using Elf on Shelf, Mensch on Bench
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is apologizing for using two characters- Elf on a Shelf and Mensch on Bench- in its social media campaigns over the holidays.
On its social media channels, the department used the two characters throughout the holiday season posing with officers or pretending to listen to the police scanner to see who was naughty or nice.
Around Dec. 25, Cpl. Rebecca Innocenti said the department got a complaint about the characters and since then officials have decided to remove all posts that contained them.
“I am not sure how it came in but it was that the person did not like the use of one or both of the characters,” Innocenti said.
The move has caused quite a stir on the Montgomery County Police Department Facebook page. As of 4 p.m. there were 101 comments on the decision posted to the site.
