NIH Bear Coming DownUpdate: MyMCMedia’s Valerie Bonk reports the bear came down from the tree in response to the noisemakers and started running. Police with tranquilizer guns went after the bear, chasing it through the NIH campus.

Original post:
Police and fire rescue crews are on the scene at NIH where a black bear has been spotted in a tree near the 9000 block of Rockville Pike.

The bear has been up this tree for quite some while so officials are using noisemakers to try and get it to come down. Officials from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) have been called to help.

MyMCMedia’s Valerie Bonk is on the scene and says the bear has not moved much other than to stretch its legs.

Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer said firefighters spotted the bear when responding to a call earlier today at the nearby Metro station.

It’s unclear if it is the same bear spotted in Rockville earlier today.
