Persian-Americans to Celebrate Spring in Boyds (PHOTOS)
Iranian Americans get ready to celebrate Norouz- the thirteenth day of the Persian year- with an outdoor gathering on April 12 at the Black Hill Regional Park in Boyds.
The festival will be held from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will include live Persian music, dance performances, children activities and more.
“All the bad things will be left in the nature and will go away. … It is one of the most important things in Iranian culture. … It’s a gathering of families; just like Christmas,” said Mina Rezvani, president of the IrAmerican Civic Society.
According to Rezvani, who has been the organization’s president since 2000, more than 4,000 people are expected to attend the event.
“We are celebrating the arrival of springtime. … The families, they get together… [to] enjoy spring and nature,” she said.
It’s the festival’s 22nd anniversary and this year Rezvani said they included other nationalities to celebrate Norouz with them.
“We added different nationalities. … [and] we have about twenty-one volunteers participating at the event,” she added.
According to Rezvani, this is not just an event for Iranian Americans; people of all nationalities are invited to attend and taste some Persian, Mexican, and American food.
