Pedestrian Struck by Train in Gaithersburg
UPDATED 9.7.14 Montgomery County Police are investigating the death of a male who was struck by a CSX freight train in Gaithersburg last night.
According to a police account, at 7:31 p.m. on Sept. 6, a call was received from CSX concerning a person possibly struck by a CSX train on the tracks just past Oakmont Avenue in Gaithersburg. Police arrived on scene and located a deceased male.
Police said their investigation has determined that the train engineer observed the male victim on the train tracks. The engineer applied the train brakes and sounded the horn multiple times before the train struck the victim, police said.
The Major Crimes Division continues to investigate this incident. The victim’s identity will be released once his family is notified of his death, police said.

Montgomery County firefighters are responding to the report of a pedestrian struck by a train on the CSX tracks near Shady Grove Road.
Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer said train traffic has been stopped in the Gaithersburg area.
According to Piringer, the incident occurred under Shady Grove Road between Oakmont Avenue and Crabbs Branch Way.
