Paint Branch Dominates Rival Springbrook 66-0
Crosstown rivals Paint Branch visited the Springbrook Blue Devils Friday night and left no doubt as to how this game was going to play out. The Paint Branch Panthers dominated the Blue Devils on both sides of the line of scrimmage offensively and defensively. The Panthers took their first possession at the start of the game, marched down the field and scored within the first two minutes of play. Five minutes later Paint Branch scored again, followed quickly by a pick6 for another score. Less than six minutes of the first quarter was complete and the score was 20-0 Panthers. The quarter had 2:38 left when #9 Norman Douglas Jr (QB) threw a strike to #24 Marvin Yirenki for a 67-yard touchdown. Again on the next Panther possession #9 Norman Douglas Jr connected for a 66-yard touchdown which took the score to 32-0 as the first quarter ended. By the end of the first half Paint Branch scored 53 unanswered points.
While talking with a photographer on the sidelines I learned he was the brother of Max Davis #21 of Paint Branch. As we talked he mentioned that he told his brother, Max, he had to “score three touchdowns tonight or he could not come home tonight.” I was confident he was joking but Max had two touchdowns and a pick6 in the first half. It would seem Max Davis #21 took his brother seriously regarding the three touchdowns.
Paint Branch is a very good football team they will need to be as efficient on offense and defense as they play host to Quince Orchard next Friday night. Two very good football teams will prove to football fans of Montgomery County who will emerge as one of the best teams in the county next Friday night.
