Organizers Say Montgomery County Community Service Week Highlights Volunteer Spirit

10-12-16-csw2016Community Service Week is just days away and Montgomery County leaders are encouraging residents to sign up and volunteer at one of the many service projects planned.

Montgomery County’s 30th Annual Community Service Week runs from Oct.16-23.

“This week is to keep energy alive and highlight service in Montgomery County,” said Molly Callaway, Montgomery County director of volunteer services. “It’s a great way to get involved and be introduced to new opportunities.”

This year’s activities include opportunities to clean up streams and parks, sorting clothing and furniture donations for low-income residents and helping the victims of the Piney Branch fire. Other volunteer opportunities include serving as staff at fundraisers, creating care packages for foster children and painting a health clinic.

People of all ages are encouraged to volunteer. There are also opportunities for Student Service Learning hours. Projects with a graduation cap symbol are pre-approved for these hours.

Organizers encourage residents who are participating in Community Service Week to share photos and posts on social media using the hashtag #CSW2016.
