One Person Dead in Gaithersburg Condo Fire, Three People Injured

UPDATED 4.3.17 Firefighters are investigating a fatal condo fire in Gaithersburg.

Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said one person was found dead in the fire and three people were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He said the fire occurred shortly after 8 p.m. at  996West Side Drive, which is the Brighton West condominiums community off of Muddy Branch Road.

Piringer said when firefighters arrived there was heavy fire showing and reports of people trapped.

According to Piringer, firefighters quickly knocked down the bulk of the fire and searched the buildings.

Piringer described damage as significant, and said 12 people will be displaced from their homes because of the fire. He said damages are estimated at $170,000.

As for what sparked the blaze, Piringer said it is believed to be accidental.
