NWS Issues Winter Weather Advisory for Parts of Montgomery County

UPDATED The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for central and southeast portions of Montgomery County, effective until 7 a.m. Monday.

According to the advisory, the steadiest snow is expected between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. and snow should end by 6 a.m. across most locations. Accumulations are expected to range from a dusting to an inch or two. Still, commuters are advised to prepare for changing conditions.

Untreated surfaces may be slippery with temperatures dropping to near or slightly below freezing.

Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman said crews pretreated city roads on Sunday. Montgomery County transportation officials activated the storm operations center at 10 p.m. last night. On Twitter, Maryland State Highway Administration officials reported that crews also pretreated state roads with brine.

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow may cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
