NW Rolls Past Churchill 56-20 in Playoff Round 1
Northwest’s football team advanced to the second round in the MPSSAA playoffs as they rolled past Churchill 56-20 in round 1.
Northwest scored quickly twice in the first six minutes of the contest to go up 14-0 on the Bulldogs and never looked back. Eight touchdowns on the night, two each by Andrew Howard and Roderick James set the tone for the evening. Northwest quarterback Jordan Morse found targets on quick outs that quickly turned up field for scoring opportunities especially for Howard.
Northwest defense bottled up Michael Janis holding him to 102 yards passing and three touchdowns, two of which came late in the fourth quarter. However, it just was not going to be the Bulldogs night as the ball never seemed to bounce their way. Northwest’s defense stifled Churchill’s running game holding them only to 38 yards on the ground.
Northwest will face Quince Orchard next Friday night in the Regional finals as the Cougars defeated Richard Montgomery 42-10 in a game played at Gaithersburg High School. The location for Friday’s 4A West Regional final is undetermined at this point. With rain occurring 9 of the last 11 Friday nights in the DMV the game may be played at a neutral site rather than at the Cougar Dome. Stay tuned to MCM for game time and location.
