Number of COVID-19 Patients in Maryland Hospitals Approaches 600

Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics

Thursday morning the Maryland Department of Health reported 17,397 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County, which is an increase of 92 from the 17,305 cases reported Wednesday.

Since the first case in March, 750 county residents have died from COVID-19. This is an increase of two deaths since Wednesday.  More Montgomery County residents have died due to COVID-19 than any other jurisdiction in the state. Prince George’s has lost 711 residents, the second-highest number.

The positivity rate of 3.64% reported Thursday is a decrease of 0.31% since Wednesday. This is the 16th straight day the rate remained below 4% in the county.

Maryland COVID-19 Statistics

As of Thursday morning, there have been 87,177 confirmed cases throughout the state. That is an increase of 892 cases in the last 24 hours. Montgomery County makes up only 10% of the new cases statewide, down from a high of over 30% in May. COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 3,357  Marylanders, ten since Wednesday.

Currently, 585 Marylanders are hospitalized with COVID-19, which is 14 more than Wednesday. Statewide hospitalizations have risen 52% since July 13 when 386 patients were hospitalized. Of the patients currently in the hospital, 139 are in intensive care, which is six less than Wednesday.

The health department reported a testing positivity rate of 4.57% Thursday, which is a decrease of 0.20% from Wednesday’s rate of 4.77%. The rate has remained below 5% for almost five weeks since June 26.

Statewide, a total of 26,601 cases and 13,701 deaths involve the state’s African American community.
