Montgomery County COVID-19 Positivity Rate Stays Below 4% for 6th Straight Day

The Maryland Department of Health reported 149 new COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County Friday morning. This brings the cumulative cases to 62,234.

Montgomery County recorded two new coronavirus-related fatalities Friday, bringing the death toll to 1,350.

The county reports 181 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Feb. 17.

As of Friday morning, 4.0% of Montgomery County residents are fully vaccinated, 11.3% have received the first dose of vaccine.

The county has a rate of 3.62% for positive COVID-19 tests, which is an increase of 0.04 from Thursday’s rate of 3.58%. This is the sixth straight day the rate is below 4%. The county’s positivity rate is lower than in 17 of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions.

At more than 1,300 deaths, Montgomery County leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities. Prince George’s County has the second-highest number with 1,274 fatalities and the most coronavirus cases in the state with 71,817 cases.

Somerset County, part of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, has the highest cases per capita with 92.2 cases per 1,000 residents. Allegany County in the western region of the state has the second-highest rate at 90.6 cases per 1,000 residents.

The state recorded 1,008 new infections Friday bringing the state’s cumulative case count to 374,974.

There are 1,016 patients hospitalized across the state with the virus. This is the fewest patients hospitalized since Nov. 17 when there were 1,016 patients in the hospital with the virus.

Friday the state recorded 16 newly reported deaths. The state’s death toll now stands at 7,495.

As of Friday, 5.0% of Marylanders are fully vaccinated, 11.7% have received the first vaccine dose. More than 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, Gov. Larry Hogan thanks all those working on the effort in this short video message:


The state reported a rate of 4.12% for positive COVID-19 tests Friday. This is a decrease of 0.01 from Thursday’s rate of 4.13%. The rate remains below 5% for eight straight days.
