Name That Street, Rockville Needs Your Help
A new street being built in Rockville needs a name, and city officials are inviting the public to submit suggestions.
The one-block street cuts in front of the new Cambria Suites Hotel, from East Montgomery Avenue in front of Regal Cinemas down to Middle Lane in the Rockville Town Center. The Planning Commission has considered some options for street names, but has not settled on one as of yet.
The name can be up to 13 characters in length (with spaces), not including the label of the street (which could be Street, Drive, Lane, Avenue, etc.). Street names in Montgomery County must be unique for the purpose of emergency responses, so options like Market Street, Town Center Lane and Welcome Way have been ruled out.
Community members are invited to send street name suggestions to mhall@rockvillemd.gov by Friday, July 24. Entrants are encouraged to provide a short explanation of why they are suggesting that particular street name.
According to city officials, names will be screened for uniqueness and sent on to the Planning Commission for consideration. The commission is expected to discuss the street’s name at its Aug. 5th meeting. If the commission selects a name submitted by a community member, the contest winner’s name choice will become the street name.

I love that!

Please consider naming the new street after the explorer, Robert E. Peary, since my high school with the same name was sold and it is such a fond memory. This would be so meaningful to the thousands of students who graduated from the school between 1959 and its closing in the 1980s. Thank you very much.
Admiral Robert E. Peary High Avenue. Please!

Our school is gone but if you would consider naming the new Street after Admiral Robert E. Peary it would heal our hearts a bit! Thank you in advance…

Robert E. Peary High School was opened from 1960 -1984 . All that attended and graduated from there would be proud to have a street named after Admiral Peary. “I will find a way or make one” has been our schools motto back then and has remained with us throughout our lives. Thank you for your time and consideration of the names that have been submitted.
Sincerely Gale Senseman Privette class of ’66.

Roy Passin Way. Roy provided unique food and service at his restaurant to lawyers and civil servants for many years right where the new block is being constructed. Known as Roy’s Place, he was “moved out” by urban renewal but didn’t give up. He was an institution around the courthouse and opened his new Roy Place in Gaithersburg.
It would a wonderful gesture to name the street Robert E. Peary Blvd… or Avenue, if you wish. This would honor my alma mater, Robert E. Peary High School, which closed in the 1980s. Thank you so much for considering !
