Twinbrook Library to Close for Renovations This Month

#DITL 6 Twinbrook Library Cheryl KaganThe Twinbrook Library will close on Saturday, July 25 at 6 p.m. for approximately four and a half months so the facility can be renovated.

“Twinbrook is the first of our branches to be modernized using an exciting and innovative approach we introduced in our FY13-16 Strategic Facilities Plan,” said Library Director Parker Hamilton. “We will now have CIP funding every year to ‘refresh’ and update two to three of our library branches. We’ll complete a focused set of improvements with a shorter closing period that will result in updated buildings, programs and services, and we’ll be able to make those improvements on a seven-year rotation instead of the traditional 20 to 30-year cycle.”

So what can you expect when it reopens?

According to a county news release, two small conference rooms will be created; some interior public spaces, including the circulation and information service desks, will be rearranged; the children’s picture book area will be repainted and partially re-carpeted; and the public restrooms will be modernized, among other improvements. Partial funding for the project was provided by the County Library Capital Grant Program, Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Library Development and Services.

“We are looking forward to reopening Twinbrook at the end of this calendar year,” Hamilton said, “and encourage all residents to follow progress on the refresh project through the Twinbrook Library Refresh Blog at http://twinbrooklibrarymcpl.blogspot.com/.”

Twinbrook Library will not be available as a pickup location for holds during the closure. Customers should select another library for this service when placing a hold in the catalog. Staff will contact customers whose holds have not been picked up by the time Twinbrook closes, and the holds will be sent to an alternative branch selected by the customer.

The book drop will remain open for returns through Thursday, August 13.

Customers are reminded that during this closure they may use other nearby branches, such as Rockville Memorial and Aspen Hill libraries, or any branch that may be convenient. Branch hours and locations can be found at: www.montgomerycountymd.gov/library.

For assistance in managing accounts during the closed period, customers can call Ask A Librarian at 240.777.0001 or any of Montgomery County Public Libraries’ other branches.
