Montgomery Working to Create Sports Hall of Fame

Katie Ledecky is one of many great athletes from Montgomery County.

Montgomery County is taking the first steps toward creating a sports hall of fame, an idea that was borne out of the county athletes who competed in the Rio Olympics in 2016.

The goal is to launch the Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame next winter, according to an email from department spokeswoman Carmen Berrios Martinez.

The county has hired a consultant to implement the Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame in the Department of Recreation’s fiscal 2018 budget.

The department is deciding which model represents the best way to create the hall, and no eligibility criteria for inductees have been developed, she said.

“It’s a work in progress.  We should have more information later this year,” Martinez said.
