Montgomery Village Man Charged with Possession of Stolen Handgun

Devante Offutt, a 24 year old male from Montgomery Village, was arrested Thursday for handgun-related offenses.

Offutt and an unnamed accomplice were observed by Montgomery County Police 6th district officers smoking marijuana in the parking lot of the Montgomery Village Center. When approached by the officers, Offutt fled the scene on foot and was seen clutching his waistband as he made his escape.

A .380 handgun was confiscated off Offutt’s person after he was apprehended. The handgun in question had been reported as stolen from Anne Arundel County. Offutt was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a prior conviction.

He is being charged with possession of a handgun, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and possession of a stolen handgun.

Offutt is currently being held without bail.
