EARLY VOTING RESULTS POSTED, ELECTION DAY RESULTS DELAYED
Early voting results have been posted on the Montgomery County Board of Election’s website but Election Day results were delayed because some polling places remained open in Baltimore City.
BOE Spokesperson Marjorie Roher said more results should be posted in the next ten minutes.

Election Operations Judge Ed Hogan reports a smooth morning at his polling place at John T. Baker Middle School in Damascus.
Hogan said in the first 14 minutes of voting on Election Day, over 47 voters were processed. By 10 a.m., about 200 voters had cast their ballots in Damascus.

SCANNER PROBLEMS
A spokesperson for the Board of Elections said there were some scanner problems reported at about a dozen precincts on the morning of Election Day.
Marjorie Roher said staff was dispatched to every site and the problems with the malfunctioning scanners were resolved quickly.
As of 1:30 p.m., she said there were no problems with the scanners.
Some voters at Rachel Carson Elementary School said lines backed up there around 11 a.m. because of a scanner issue. Roher said she could not confirm the locations of the polling places with scanner problems.
One Gaithersburg voter said he waited in line for 45 minutes because of the scanner issue.
Roher said each precinct has two scanners so voting can continue if one goes down.

STEADY STREAM OF VOTERS AT RCES
There was a steady stream of voters at Rachel Carson Elementary School today, and there were some reports of delays because of a scanner problem in the morning hours.
You can find election results after the polls close at 8 p.m. on Nov. 8th by visiting the Montgomery County Board of Elections website.
Results from early voting will be posted first.
Beginning at 9 p.m., unofficial results from Election Day will be available and results will be updated regularly.
According to a BOE news release, absentee and provisional ballots will be counted beginning November 10th, with complete, unofficial results expected by November 28th.
The polls close at 8 p.m. on Nov. 8, and turnout numbers will be released throughout the day, according to an official with the Board of Elections.
As for election results, Board of Elections spokesperson Marjorie Roher said early voting results will be released first and, she said, election results will be updated about every 20 minutes.

THE WATCH PARTIES
So where will the candidates be on election night?
The Maryland Democratic Party is hosting an election night event on Nov. 8th at the Tommy Douglas Conference Center in Silver Spring. The Republicans are celebrating election night at the BWI Airport Marriott in Linthicum.
The Montgomery County GOP has announced a watch party at Lahinch Tavern & Grill at the Cabin John Shopping Center.
EARLY VOTING BY THE NUMBERS
The Montgomery County Board of Elections reports that over 22 percent of Montgomery County’s voters, or 162,436 voters, cast their ballots at ten early voting centers during the eight days of early voting.
The Silver Spring Civic Building was the busiest early voting center with 21,760 voters. Early voting centers in Germantown, Gaithersburg and Potomac followed.

Early voting is now over.
If you didn’t have time to vote early, remember the polls open at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8. You can vote from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at your precinct on Election Day.
In addition, the Board of Elections office will be open from noon – 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for absentee voting.
Didn’t have time to vote early? Polls open 7am-8pm on Tuesday. Our office is open M-F 8:30-5:00 & Sat/Sun from 12-4 for absentee voting.
Have you voted yet? Early voting continues thru Nov. 3 at ten locations across Montgomery County.
There are 727,177 registered voters in Montgomery County, according to Board of Elections spokesperson Marjorie Roher.
According to Roher, as of Oct. 31, 13 percent of those voters have voted early.

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett is encouraging residents to vote. In case you are wondering if he voted early, Leggett said he traditionally votes on Election Day.

DID YOU MISS THE VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE?
If you missed the October 18th deadline to register to vote and you’re a new Montgomery County resident, you can still register to vote during early voting on the same day you vote.
In order to register, you must have a valid Maryland driver’s license or MVA issued photo id and proof of residency. Once you register, you will be issued a ballot. This opportunity is not available on Election Day, Nov. 8th.
If you’re new to Montgomery County and not yet registered to vote, visit an Early Voting Site between Oct. 27 and Nov. 3. If you are currently a registered voter, you may not change your party affiliation at this time – only new registrants may take advantage of the Same Day Voter Registration Program.

MARYLAND SENATE CANDIDATES TO APPEAR ON THE POLITICS HOUR
The Democrat and Republican candidates for Maryland’s U.S. Senate seat, Chris Van Hollen and Kathy Szeliga, are scheduled to appear on WAMU’s Kojo Nnamdi show, The Politics Hour, Friday at noon.
The two Senate candidates are expected to debate the issues.
The Montgomery County Board of Elections (BOE) is actively recruiting election judges.
“We’re trying to recruit anywhere from 4,000 to 5,000 individuals,” said Marjorie Roher, BOE spokesperson.
According to Roher, if you want to serve as an election judge at your home precinct, you need to sign up early.

SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES’ FORUM
The League of Women Voters of Montgomery County, the Montgomery County Council of PTAs, and the NAACP (Montgomery County, MD Branch Parents’ Council) hosted a Board of Education (BOE) Candidates’ Forum on Sept. 28 at John F. Kennedy High School.
The candidates running for the BOE in the at large race are Jeanette Dixon and Phil Kauffman; the candidates in the District 2 race are Brandon Rippeon and Rebecca Smondrowski; and the District 4 seat race features Shebra Evans and Anjali Reed Phukan,

The Maryland State Board of Elections is setting the record straight when it comes to all those rumors about the upcoming election on Nov. 8th.
The Board has launched a Rumor Control page on its website, which includes a list of rumors that are followed by the facts.

BOE MEMBER SMONDROWSKI SEEKS REELECTION
Gaithersburg resident Rebecca Smondrowski is seeking reelection to the school board.
During a recent visit to the studios of Montgomery Community Media, we asked the District 2 incumbent why she’s running for a second term.
“I am running for reelection because I believe in the work that I have been doing,” said Smondrowski. “I am very passionate about this job. I feel that there is nothing more important in our children’s lives than a complete and positive school experience and I believe that I am able to make a difference.”

Maryland State Senator Jamie Raskin, a Democrat, is running for Congress. During a recent visit to the studios of Montgomery Community Media, we asked him what he thinks about the candidacy of Donald Trump for president.

FUTURE VOTE REGISTRATION IS UNDERWAY
The Montgomery County Board of Elections is seeking school-age students, grades 6-12, to participate in its “Future Vote” Program. Future Vote students will serve as Election Day student aides during the 2016 Presidential General Election on Tuesday, November 8. There are also opportunities for students to assist the Board of Elections with a variety of activities before Election Day.
Students and their guardians must attend mandatory training to participate in the Future Vote Program and, if applicable, students will receive Student Service Learning (SSL) credits. Most students work in precincts near their home. This initiative combines civic participation and the opportunity to observe democracy in action.
The Future Vote Program is available to all Montgomery County students within public, private, independent, religious or home-schools. U.S. citizenship is not a pre-requisite and students with bilingual and American Sign Language skills are encouraged to apply.
In the 2012 Presidential Election, more than 2,000 Montgomery County students participated in the Future Vote Program, including 473 students with bilingual skills and 15 students who were available at polling places to assist voters using American Sign Language.
Interested parents/guardians may register their student(s) before October 5 online by visiting the Montgomery County Board of Elections’ website at www.777vote.org or by email at future.vote@montgomerycountymd.gov.
KATHY SZELIGA CAMPAIGNS FOR SENATE IN MOCO
Republican Kathy Szeliga is running for a U.S. Senate seat, and during a recent stop in Montgomery County she said her “campaign is going very well.”
“We are working tirelessly across the state,” she said. “Everybody agrees Washington is broken. It is time to change things in Washington.”
Szeliga said she believes her business background would help her change things in Washington.
“I want to bring some new ideas to Washington, because I believe that our country is headed in the wrong direction,” she said.
As for voters, she said they are telling her that they are concerned about taxes and national security.

SZELIGA RELEASES STATEMENT ON TRUMP’S COMMENTS
Republican Kathy Szeliga, who is running for U.S. Senate, has released the following statement about Donald Trump’s comments from 2005:
“I am appalled by Donald Trump’s comments,” said Szeliga. “I raised my sons to never speak about women like this and to defend women against just these kind of comments. Donald Trump should sincerely apologize to all women immediately.”

MARYLAND SENATE CANDIDATES TO APPEAR ON THE POLITICS HOUR
The Democrat and Republican candidates for Maryland’s U.S. Senate seat, Chris Van Hollen and Kathy Szeliga, are scheduled to appear on WAMU’s Kojo Nnamdi show, The Politics Hour, Friday at noon.
The two Senate candidates are expected to debate the issues.

ELECTION JUDGES NEEDED
The Montgomery County Board of Elections (BOE) is actively recruiting election judges.
“We’re trying to recruit anywhere from 4,000 to 5,000 individuals,” said Marjorie Roher, BOE spokesperson.
According to Roher, if you want to serve as an election judge at your home precinct, you need to sign up early.

SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES’ FORUM
The League of Women Voters of Montgomery County, the Montgomery County Council of PTAs, and the NAACP (Montgomery County, MD Branch Parents’ Council) hosted a Board of Education (BOE) Candidates’ Forum on Sept. 28 at John F. Kennedy High School.
The candidates running for the BOE in the at large race are Jeanette Dixon and Phil Kauffman; the candidates in the District 2 race are Brandon Rippeon and Rebecca Smondrowski; and the District 4 seat race features Shebra Evans and Anjali Reed Phukan,

BOE MEMBER SMONDROWSKI SEEKS REELECTION
Gaithersburg resident Rebecca Smondrowski is seeking reelection to the school board.
During a recent visit to the studios of Montgomery Community Media, we asked the District 2 incumbent why she’s running for a second term.
“I am running for reelection because I believe in the work that I have been doing,” said Smondrowski. “I am very passionate about this job. I feel that there is nothing more important in our children’s lives than a complete and positive school experience and I believe that I am able to make a difference.”

RASKIN ON DONALD TRUMP
Maryland State Senator Jamie Raskin, a Democrat, is running for Congress. During a recent visit to the studios of Montgomery Community Media, we asked him what he thinks about the candidacy of Donald Trump for president.
“If Donald Trump were to win, Canada is going to build a wall and make us pay for it because there are going to be so many Americans trying to flee the country,” Raskin said.

FUTURE VOTE REGISTRATION IS UNDERWAY
The Montgomery County Board of Elections is seeking school-age students, grades 6-12, to participate in its “Future Vote” Program. Future Vote students will serve as Election Day student aides during the 2016 Presidential General Election on Tuesday, November 8. There are also opportunities for students to assist the Board of Elections with a variety of activities before Election Day.
Students and their guardians must attend mandatory training to participate in the Future Vote Program and, if applicable, students will receive Student Service Learning (SSL) credits. Most students work in precincts near their home. This initiative combines civic participation and the opportunity to observe democracy in action.
The Future Vote Program is available to all Montgomery County students within public, private, independent, religious or home-schools. U.S. citizenship is not a pre-requisite
and students with bilingual and American Sign Language skills are encouraged to apply.
In the 2012 Presidential Election, more than 2,000 Montgomery County students participated in the Future Vote Program, including 473 students with bilingual skills and 15 students who were available at polling places to assist voters using American Sign Language.
Interested parents/guardians may register their student(s) before October 5 online by visiting the Montgomery County Board of Elections’ website at www.777vote.org or by email at future.vote@montgomerycountymd.gov.
KATHY SZELIGA CAMPAIGNS FOR SENATE IN MOCO
Republican Kathy Szeliga is running for a U.S. Senate seat, and during a recent stop in Montgomery County she said her “campaign is going very well.”
“We are working tirelessly across the state,” she said. “Everybody agrees Washington is broken. It is time to change things in Washington.”
Szeliga said she believes her business background would help her change things in Washington.
“I want to bring some new ideas to Washington, because I believe that our country is headed in the wrong direction,” she said.
As for voters, she said they are telling her that they are concerned about taxes and national security.

On the Nov. 8th ballot, Szeliga is running against Democrat Chris Van Hollen and Green Party candidate Dr. Margaret Flowers for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by long-term Senator Barbara Mikulski, who is retiring.
