I live in Germantown. Where can I find a list of local doctors who would prescribe medical marijuana? Where does one apply for a medical marijuana card. Which would be my first step? Thank you.

Hello! Good question, in my experience the best resource for finding a physician who can provide you with a recommendation(very important terminology here, it is NOT a prescription) has been Green Health Docs. A quick Google search of their organization will get you the info you need. All you really need to do is go by location and work your way through, finding a doctor local to you. Most doctors will tell you to make sure you have your Patient ID ready before you come to the office, and for that, you’ll need to sign up via the Maryland Medical Cannabis Coalition(MMCC) website. The application process doesn’t take very long, maybe a week or so at most, and it’s all done online. Once you have your Patient ID, make sure you check the listings on the MMCC webpage for the ailments and conditions by which you would be eligible for approval, for instance, in my case I use it to help with my Depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Chronic Panic Attacks. Any current medications, prescriptions or diagnoses from your personal care physician can and should be brought with you when you see your physician for your medical cannabis recommendation. After a short conversation about whether this is the best option for you between you and your doc, they’ll take your info, process you through the system and you’re done! Some doctors will even print your temporary MMCC ID card directly from the site for you, otherwise, you’re able to print it yourself from your account on the MMCC webpage. The total cost and time for the entire process is somewhere around $225-$250 but as a patient myself I would say it’s well worth it.

    BREAKDOWN:
    1) Check MMCC website for listed ailments/conditions
    2) If qualified, create and account and sign up for an MMCC Patient ID($$$)
    3) Once approved by MMCC, run a search online for local MMCC approved physicians and schedule an appointment, my recommended search tool is Green Health Docs
    4) Bring all supporting medical records with you to your physicians appointment($$$)
    Done!

I say this as a patient and not as an employee, nor as a paid advertisement of or from any of the aforementioned organizations. I am a regular person just like anyone else, but I feel as though the difference I’ve noticed in the quality of my life can’t be unique to me. Cannabis has always been a healing substance, and I think awareness of all things, both in function as well as the legal avenues to procure it are necessary if we’re ever going to do better as a society.
