MCPS Teacher Linked to Capitol Riots Now Teaches with Virtual Academy

Summer Paglianete, the Quince Orchard social studies teacher reported to have visited Washington D.C. on Jan. 6 to participate in a pro-Trump rally aimed at overturning the results of the 2020 Presidential election, now teaches with the Montgomery County Public School’s Virtual Academy.

She teaches instructional technology, according to an MCPS spokesperson. During the current school year, MCPS offers a Virtual Academy that is full-time and is designed to serve students “with qualifying extenuating circumstances (including physical and mental health-related reasons, as well as demonstrated academic success during virtual learning),” according to MCPS’ website.

Screenshots and screen recordings from what appears to be Paglianete’s Instagram story from Jan. 6 circulated on social media. Paglianete’s apparent Instagram account, “summerpags,” has since been disabled, but one user on Twitter tweeted the screenshots and screen recordings. One screenshot from the Instagram story showed a crowd of people, many dressed in camouflage, holding American flags. The caption read, “sorry children, your gov doesn’t want me to teach today.” Other screenshots displayed photos of Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. speaking on a stage before the Capitol was breached.

The posted photos and videos do not show her inside the U.S. Capitol.
