MCPS Investigates Conduct of Former Substitute Teacher

mcpsMontgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is notifying parents that it continues to look into the employment record of Jose Pineda, a former substitute teacher who was recently arrested and charged with having inappropriate contact with a student at Roberto Clemente Middle School.

Since the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year, Pineda has worked at 20 schools in Montgomery County.

According to MCPS, the principals at these schools have been directed to send a letter home to make parents aware that Pineda worked in the school and ask them to report any information about inappropriate conduct to the police and school administration as soon as possible.

A version of that letter and a list of the schools where Pineda worked are included here.

According to MCPS, over the past two days, some students at Ridgeview Middle School and Gaithersburg Elementary School have come forward and indicated they had interactions with Pineda that were inappropriate or made them feel uncomfortable. The parents of these students have been consulted and the police are investigating these allegations, MCPS said.

MCPS officials said Pineda had worked at Ridgeview Middle School for 29 days and Gaithersburg Elementary School for three days since the beginning of last school year.

In an announcement posted on its website, MCPS noted it will work with the police to ensure that any reports of inappropriate conduct involving Pineda are investigated in a timely and thorough manner.
