MCP Releases Results of First Two Weeks of Holiday Alcohol Task Force Enforcement Efforts

Montgomery County Police Alcohol Holiday Task Force has released the results of their first two weeks of enforcement efforts. The task force is made up of patrol officers from the six police districts and officers from the Alcohol Initiatives Section. In its first two weeks, the Alcohol Holiday Task Force made 62 DUI arrests.

Officers from Gaithersburg Police Department, the Montgomery County Division of the Maryland National Capital Park Police Department, Maryland State Police, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and Takoma Park Police Department also comprise the Alcohol Holiday Task Force.

These officers are “devoting their full time and attention to detecting alcohol-related offenses” throughout the holiday season which began on November 15 and will end on January 6, 2018.

According to MCP News, the first two weeks of the enforcement efforts resulted in the following:

Week 1: November 16 – November 18:

  • 19 – Arrests for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or drugs (DUI)
  • 2 – Civil Alcohol Citations issued to adults for possession of alcohol under the age of 21

Week 2: November 21 (Tuesday), November 22 (Wednesday), November 24 (Friday), November 25 (Saturday):

  • 43 – Arrests for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or drugs (DUI)
  • 4 – Civil Alcohol Citations issued to adults for possession of alcohol under the age of 21
  • 3 – Criminal arrests
    • Task force officers arrested an adult male after he was stopped while driving a vehicle that had been previously reported stolen during a residential burglary in the Gaithersburg area.

The Holiday Task Force will be aided by the Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control who will provide compliance checks of businesses.
