MCM CEO Merlyn Reineke Dies

Montgomery Community Media Chief Executive Officer Merlyn Reineke died Friday in a death that is being considered a suicide, MCM Chief Operating Officer Nannette Hobson said.
“This news is shocking for us all and we are still trying to process this tragedy. We have many questions and few answers at this point,” Hobson said.
Reineke was found in his office at MCM in Derwood.
Hobson asked the community to place Merlyn’s family — including MCM employees, students and volunteers — in your prayers during this difficult time.

Like so many members of the MCM family I am stunned and saddened at the news of Merlyn’s death. As a volunteer at MCM for almost 10 years i remember when Merlyn came aboard. His energy and enthusiasm left no doubt that MCM would benefit tremendously from his leadership. I will remember his charisma and ability to listen to different ideas and points of view. To his family you have my deepest condolences and prayers during this trying time. To my MCM family– sending you my love and support.
Merlyn and I were friends in college and produced radio comedy together. I’m afraid we didn’t remain close over the years but his death is still a shock to me. He was one of the most giving and affable human beings I’ve ever met and it’s very hard to resolve this news with my memories of him. Love and condolences to his family.
Merlyn was one of the nicest guys I ever met when I was a freshman at USC. For the Cal game weekend, we all drove up north and his family put us up and Merlyn showed us around Rio Vista and introduced us to his friends.Many years later, when we were first working, I ran into him on the Paramount lot when I was working there. It had been several years since college, but so great to see each other again. Whether it was just hanging out in the dorm or going to a Springsteen concert, I’m grateful for having known him. I’m so sorry to hear this. My condolences to his family and friends.
I am so sorry to hear of his passing. We were college roommates. His humor will live on, if only in memory.
I am shocked to read this dreadful news about Meryln. I worked with him at NET back in the day. He had a calming and kind demeanor. Prayers for him and his family.
Merlyn was station manager at KRVH my senior year in 1981 at Rio Vista High School we were switching from 90.9 to 101.1 fm and he talked me into trying to stay on the air 101 hours during spring break, I made it I think 3 days , he told me I’d be famous for playing Celebration by Kool n the Gang 50 times in a row…….I knew then he’d become a star , just a kid many years ahead of anyone else! He also figured out using our HS tv station we could get free food doing live interviews at all the local restaurants ! Thanks for being my friend back then! Thanks Greg , Dr. Mitch RVHS 1981
