Maryland Women – B1G Ten Season Champs (PHOTOS)
The Maryland Women’s basketball team celebrated the regular season championship early last evening at their annual Play 4 K home game by defeating Penn State 65-34. The championship was decided earlier the past weekend when their nearest league rival Iowa lost leaving Maryland standing alone at the top of their new league the B1G Ten.
The Terps are currently 16-0 in league play with two games remaining (their last home game is this Thursday evening against Indiana). Should they finish undefeated at 18-0 in the league it will be a feat last accomplished nearly 30 years ago by the Ohio State women.
In their inaugural season with the B1G Ten it has been no surprise to those who follow the Terps or their opponents that Maryland was picked to finish on top of the league – and did. They are ranked #5 in the country and return a roster of players who are experienced in post-season play having gone to the NCAA Final Four in 2013.
March madness is around the corner and interest in collegiate basketball here in Montgomery County peaks just as did the cherry blossom pink colors on the Terps Play 4 K cover-ups and shoes.
Here are a few photos of the B1G Ten Regular Season Champions at play and as they celebrated last evening with a large silver and glass trophy and a few friends.
