Maryland Superintendent: Sports Canceled For Remainder of School Year
Maryland Superintendent Karen Salmon announced “the cancellation of all athletic events [and] sports for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.”
Salmon made the announcement at a State Board of Education meeting Tuesday afternoon.
“This also includes the remainder of the 2020 Boys and Girls Basketball State Championships and all spring sports, as well as spring state championships,” Salmon said.
The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association released a statement expressing gratitude to high school seniors, coaches, underclassmen, and school administrators. MPSSAA says it will be “focusing all efforts on aligning the return of interscholastic athletics with the Maryland Strong Road Map to Recovery and the multi-phased approach within each stage of the recovery.
