Maryland Reports Record Number of COVID-19 Hospitalizations, 47 Deaths, 10 in Montgomery County

Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics

The Maryland Department of Health reported 513 new COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County Wednesday morning. The county’s cumulative case count is 48,864.

Montgomery County recorded 10 new coronavirus-related fatalities Wednesday, bringing the death toll to 1,114.

As of Wednesday, 11 schools in the state are reporting COVID-19 cases, one school is located in Montgomery County. Rockville’s College Gardens Elementary School is reporting two positive cases of COVID-19.

The county has a rolling seven-day average of 8.4% for positive COVID-19 tests, which is an increase of 0.22 from Tuesday’s average rate of 8.18%. The county’s positivity rate is lower than in 18 of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions.

Montgomery County leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities but not in total cases. Prince George’s County has the most coronavirus cases in the state with 57,286 cases and 1,084 fatalities.

Allegany County in the western region of the state has the most cases per capita at 79.8 cases per 1,000 residents. Somerset County has the second-highest per capita cases with 74.1 cases per 1,000 residents.

Maryland COVID-19 Statistics

Wednesday the state recorded 3,146 new infections. This is only the fourth time since Dec. 1 that the state recorded more than three thousand new cases in a 24 hour period. The state’s cumulative case count is 292,904.

There are 1,862 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 across the state as of Wednesday morning. This is the highest number of Marylanders hospitalized with COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

Wednesday the state recorded 47 newly reported deaths, bringing the state death toll to 5,960.

The state reported a rolling seven-day average of 9.44% for positive COVID-19 tests Wednesday. This is an increase of 0.25 from Tuesday’s rate of 9.19%.
