Maryland COVID-19 Cases Surpass 200,000; County’s Daily Cases Top 500 for Only 2nd Time

The Maryland Department of Health has reported 506 new cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County Tuesday morning. This is only the second time new cases were greater than 500, the first was 533 recorded on May 19. The county’s cumulative case count is 33,906.
The county has a rolling seven-day average of 5.63% for positive COVID-19 tests, which is an increase of 0.67 from Monday’s average rate of 4.96%. The county’s positivity rate is lower than in 19 of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions.
Montgomery County recorded six new coronavirus-related fatalities Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 918.
Montgomery County leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities; Prince George’s County has 911 fatalities and the most coronavirus cases in the state with 41,857 cases.
Gov. Larry Hogan is set to provide a news briefing on the state’s response to the surge in COVID-19 cases Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. His briefing will be streamed live on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Maryland COVID-19 Statistics
The state recorded 2,765 new infections Tuesday. This is the 28th consecutive day the state recorded more than a thousand new cases. The state’s cumulative case count surpassed 200 thousand.
COVID-19 related hospitalizations continue to climb. On Tuesday, the state reported 1,583 patients were hospitalized across the state with the virus, a number not seen since May.
Maryland recorded 30 new coronavirus-related fatalities Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 4,516.
The state reported a rolling seven-day average of 7.33% for positive COVID-19 tests Tuesday. This is an increase of 0.47 from Monday’s rate of 6.86%.
