The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration plan to resurface the bridge deck of the outer loop of the capital beltway over Kensington Parkway starting Friday, June 15 at 9 p.m. The Kensington Parkway bridge is located just east of Connecticut Avenue. The resurfacing is scheduled to be complete by 5 p.m. Saturday, June 16.

Motorists should expect triple lane closures between Georgia Avenue (MD 97) and Connecticut Avenue (MD 185) from Friday at 9 p.m. One travel lane will be maintained at all times until crews complete resurfacing the bridge deck.

Nearly 233,000 vehicles travel on this section of the Capital Beltway daily, so motorists should expect major delays during paving. Drivers can use University Boulevard, Veirs Mill Road and Georgia Avenue as alternatives.

The bridge deck resurfacing is part of Maryland’s $8 million safety and resurfacing project, which should be complete mid-summer. Click here for more project information.
