Magruder Defeats Crosstown Rival Sherwood, 60-47

Rockville, Maryland Magruder High School December 14, 2018

The early season contest between Sherwood High School and host Magruder was a Friday game where bragging rights in Olney were on the line.  the pace of the game was such that the 30-second shot clock was never a factor that required a team to shoot the ball.  The shooting came early and often as the teams raced up and down the court.  The score was close early in the first quarter and only changed after a Magruder 7-0 run to go up 14-9.  The score seesawed and Sherwood took a lead only briefly with Magruder building a 15 point lead late in the second quarter.  The first half scoring was led by #14 senior Ebby Asamoah with 16 first-half points.  Asamoah is certainly the team leader and the momentum and scoring runs are often ignited by his play.

As the fourth quarter began Magruder was comfortably ahead 45-34.  A seven to three-run four minutes later kept Magruder comfortably leading late in the game.  The final score was 60-47 and Magruder has the early season position of the top team in Olney and certainly a team to watch this season in Montgomery County.  C0ach Dan Harwood has a very talented team that plays at a very fast pace and a stifling man to man defense.  The Colonels are currently undefeated 3-0 in this young season.  Magruder faces Churchill at home Tuesday night at 7:15 p.m.
