Lt. Gov. Brown on Death of Mandela
Maryland Lt. Governor Anthony Brown on the death of Nelson Mandela:
“Here in Maryland and around the world, we are deeply saddened by the loss of one of justice and freedom’s true champions. Each of us – whether you joined in his long fight to end aparthieid or celebrated his inauguration as president – carries a piece of Nelson Mandela inside of us as we fight each and every day to make our communities and our countries worthy of his example.
“We are saddened, and yet we remain the grateful inheritors of a legacy which stretches from Soweto to Savannah, from Bloemfontein to Baltimore, and everywhere in between. His search for justice inspired so many, and his message of forgiveness and cooperation even after three decades of captivity showed us all what a heart full of love is capable of.
“When I look at my children, I know that the world they live in – the world that they will one day leave to their children – is a better place because Nelson Mandela dedicated his life to serving others. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends as they grieve this terrible loss.”
