Local Seniors to Showcase Original Works at Art Show

In recognition of Active Aging month, forty-two residents at Riderwood Retirement Community in Silver Spring have been hard at work creating original pieces of art that will be displayed in a public art show May 7-9.
The art show titled “Feast for the Eyes II,” showcases more than 165 pieces of art which include paintings, metal weavings, silk screens, photography and sculpture. The artists themselves will also be at the event to discuss the stories behind their work.
“To me, the stories of the inspiration and process behind each piece, whether it’s an acrylic painting or a metal weaving, is fascinating,” said Jeff Getek, public affairs manager at Riderwood Retirement Community. “Attendees will have the opportunity to interact directly with the artists, which makes this a true celebration of art.”
The three-day art exhibit, which is sponsored by the Riderwood Diversity & Inclusion Committee, will be open from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 7 and 8, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 9.
“These folks are committed artists with a variety of diverse backgrounds,” Getek said. “I’ve seen their work, and it is professional quality.”
