Lightning Strikes Cause Two House Fires on Same Block in Potomac
Montgomery County firefighters rushed to put out a fire in the 8500 block of Rapley Preserve Circle in Potomac Friday evening.
The neighborhood endured severe weather conditions Friday night bringing both thunder and lightning to the area.
MCFRS were called to the neighborhood to extinguish a residential fire at 8527 Rapley Preserve Circle. Shortly after arriving, a second fire broke out at a neighboring home.
MCFRS had to mobilize an additional team to fight the second fire. Over 100 personnel were called to the block to help put out the fires.
After investigation, MCFRS determined that both fires were caused by lightning strikes.
The first home suffered approximately $500,000 worth of damages while the second home suffered rougly $250,000. Both families are displaced from their homes due to the damage.
