Let’s Get Ready to Rumble MCSL Style
North Potomac, MD: July 21, 2018
The meet announcer at the Westleigh Pool and Tennis Club did his best WWF “Let’s get ready to rumble” imitations calling G Division swimmers up to blocks on an overcast and rainy MCSL Saturday morning. “A” team swimmers for Westleigh, Manchester Farm, Forrest Knoll, Rock Creek, Old Farm and Lakelands showed up early with great desire to secure their position in the competitive G Division of the Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL). Despite the rain and dropping temperatures, the bath water 25 meter pool made ready the event for a hundred or so swimmers aged from 7 to 18.
For some MCSL swimmers across all of the MoCo, Divisionals are a bittersweet meet. Those 18 years old are finishing up a summer swim career with their last official team representation meet. Then most swimmers are also fighting for one more chance at an All-Star time and one last chance to swim.
For me, it has been a tough summer catching up with MCSL swimming but I tend to rally at the end of July, just like these swimmers pushing for that one last summer moment. As they stare straight into that “eye of the tiger” to get a personal best time to finish the summer strong, all agree that this is what summer is like for MoCo families itching to start vacation at the “shore” at the “beach”, the “lake” or down at the “banks”. It is one more meet to swim before All Stars.
