Leggett to Sign $15 Minimum Wage Bill
Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett is expected to sign into law a bill passed this week by the County Council that would raise the minimum wage to $15 over the next several years, according to a news release.
Leggett will be joined by Councilmember Marc Elrich, sponsor of the bill; Montgomery County Council President Roger Berliner; Casa de Maryland’s Gustavo Torres; and a worker currently earning minimum wage.
The county council voted unanimously Tuesday to increase the county’s minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2021 for companies with 51 or more employees.
Nonprofits and mid-sized companies with less than 50 employees would pay the $15 rate by 2023.
