Leggett Expected to Hold Memorial Service for Homeless
Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett is expected to join County Councilmember George Leventhal and community nonprofits for a special ceremony on June 7 to commemorate homeless individuals who died in 2016 and 2017, according to a news release.
A survey published by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments titled, “2017 Point-in-Time Survey,” shows there are approximately 1,100 people experiencing homelessness in Montgomery County.
In addition to the commemoration ceremony, Leggett is expected to announce a community-wide effort to refocus the county’s efforts on housing the chronically homeless by the end of 2017.
A chronically homeless individual is defined as someone who has experienced homelessness for three consecutive months in a year or periods of homelessness totaling three months in a six-month time period.
The commemoration ceremony will begin at 10:15 a.m at the Executive Circuit Court Plaza on 101 Monroe Street in Rockville.
