Ledecky Wins 3 Races, Breaks All-Time Record for Pro Series Wins

Keeping Up with Katie: The latest news and information about the Olympic champion swimmer and Montgomery County’s own Katie Ledecky.

Five-time Olympic champion Katie Ledecky won three races over the weekend, breaking the record for most Pro Swim Series wins of all time. Ledecky won the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle races in the Tyr Pro Swim Series meet in Richmond, VA, and those wins helped her pass six-time Olympic medalist Missy Franklin for the record.

The race also featured Olympic gold medalists Simone Manuel, Caeleb Dressel, and Ryan Murphy, as well as the 19-year old rising star Michael Andrew.

Ledecky did not participate in one of her best events, the 1500 freestyle, despite holding not only the world record time for that event, but also holding nine of the ten fastest times ever recorded.

Swimmers are training for the FINA World Championships on July 12-28 in Gwangju, South Korea, which may have played a role in Ledecky sitting out of the 1500 in this competition.
