Over the next five weekends, Montgomery County’s Department of Transportation will close lanes on Rockville Pike between Woodmont Avenue and Wilson Drive, near the Medical Center Metro Station, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center at Naval Support Activity Bethesda.
The lanes will close at 10 p.m. Friday and reopen at 5 a.m. Monday, weather permitting, as follows:
- Friday night, July 7 through Monday morning, July 10 — Two Northbound Lanes.
- Friday night, July 14 through Monday morning, July 17 — Two Northbound Lanes
- Friday night, July 21 through Monday morning, July 24 — Two Northbound Lanes and One Southbound Lane
- Friday night, July 28 through Monday morning, July 31 — One Northbound Lane and Two Southbound Lanes.
- Friday night, August 4 through Monday morning, August 7 — Two Southbound Lanes
According to a news release, these lane closures are part of the ongoing construction of the Crossing Project at the Medical Center Metro Station, which will establish a shallow pedestrian underpass between NIH and WRNMMC, and deep elevators on the Navy side of Rockville Pike to the Metrorail mezzanine.
Construction of the Crossing Project is anticipated through mid-2021.
