Kenwood’s Cherry Blossoms – An Artistic Sight to Behold

Behold, pink and white blossoms on cherry trees line the streets in the Kenwood neighborhood.  It must be springtime in Montgomery County.  Appreciatively, nine miles southeast along River Road an intersecting Wisconsin Avenue lies the tourist favored Japanese cherry trees along DC’s Tidal Basin.  However, these two locations are worlds apart.

Attractively, the Tidal Basin has it’s corner view of icon historic monuments. Comfortingly, Kenwood has old growth cherry trees in front of iconic Tudor homes and co-existing with MoCo McMansion’s.

The Tidal Basin has it’s tourist crowds.  Kenwood has its tourist picnickers.  The Tidal Basin has kitschy souvenir street hawkers.  Kenwood has its resident middle schoolers practiced at the art of selling $1 Raspberry Lemonade’s and Red Velvet cupcakes.

Securely, the Tidal Basin has horse mounted National Park policemen to channel the crowds.  Kenwood has No Parking Signs by order of the MCPD, it’s unmarked police cars and yes the Secret Service details.  This kind of indicates to you where everyone feels safe.  Simply, you are able to walk, run or bike under this pink umbrella canopy without bumping into cars.

Artistically, everyone loves the tree line Tidal Basin, it’s water views of the Jefferson and the Washington Monument juxtapositioned with the bending bow of cherry blossom limbs.

Artistically, you will never find a more serene place for a picnic. Enjoy a blue solo cup of lemonade and home baked cookies as you walk along and under those snowing white and pink petals.  Literally, Kenwood’s streets of Highland, Sunset, Chamberlin, Garnett are covered with pink, fallen petals.

It is a fleeting sight to behold.
