Kensington Volunteer Fire Department to Hold 9/11 Ceremony on 20th Anniversary 

The Kensington Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) will hold a remembrance ceremony Saturday morning to mark the 20 years since the Sept. 1, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The ceremony will take place at the station 11 a.m. Saturday at 10620 Connecticut Ave. in Kensington. KVFD said residents can park behind the station and at 10401 Connecticut Ave. (Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union).

Planned speakers include U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), former CIA Chief of Staff Jeremy Bash, County Fire and Rescue Chief Scott Goldstein, former KVFD Fire Chief James Stanton and Kensington Mayor Tracey Furman.

KVFD responded to the attack on the Pentagon in 2001. The fire station has a 9/11 memorial honoring all three points of tragedy that day: the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Most recently in 2019, the department received a plaque dedicated to the victims who died in Shanksville.
