Kensington Park Library Closes for Renovations

Books pictureThe Kensington Park Library is now closed for approximately four and a half months so the facility can be renovated. The branch closed on Oct. 10th.

Under the project, a full service elevator will be installed to provide access to the lower level meeting room and public restrooms. There will be expanded space for picture books and early reading materials. Two new conference rooms will be added. Some interior spaces will be rearranged and new Circulation and Information Desks will be provided. The building interior will be painted and recarpeted and the public restrooms will be updated.

“Kensington Park Library is the second of our branches to be modernized using an exciting and innovative approach we introduced in our FY13-16 Strategic Facilities Plan,” said Libraries Director Parker Hamilton. “We will now have CIP funding every year to ‘refresh’ and update two to three of our library branches. We’ll complete a focused set of improvements with a shorter closing period that will result in updated buildings, programs and services. We’ll be able to make those improvements on a seven year rotation instead of the previous 20-30 year renovation cycle.

“We encourage all residents to follow progress on the project through the Kensington Park Library Refresh Blog. Follow the link below to Kensington Park’s home page:
http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/library/branches/kensingtonpark.html, and check for the link to the blog in early October, ” Hamilton added. “We are looking forward to reopening Kensington Park early in 2016.”

The Kensington Park Library bookdrop will remain open for returns through Wednesday, October 21.

Customers are reminded that during this closure, they may use other nearby branches, such as Chevy Chase, Wheaton and Davis Libraries, or any branch that may be convenient. Branch hours and locations can be found at: www.montgomerycountymd.gov/library.

For assistance in managing accounts during the closed period, customers can call Ask A Librarian at 240.777.0001 or any of Montgomery County Public Libraries’ other branches.
