Katie Ledecky is the best swimmer in the world who is very unaccustomed to not finishing in first place. That’s why Sunday’s second place finish in the 400 meter freestyle at the world championships in Gwangju, South Korea was a real stunner. Ledecky – a five-time Olympic gold medalist – was edged out by Australian teenager Ariarne Titmus.

Ledecky still has plenty of opportunities to win at the worlds, the first big event of the year. Over the next few days, she will be participating in three more individual freestyle races and the 4×200 freestyle relay. The Olympics in Tokyo begin next July 24.
