Jawando: ICE Notice at White Oak Apartment A Hoax

Councilmember Will Jawando shared two photos Thursday on Facebook that showed a fake notice posted on doors at the White Oak Gardens Apartments in Silver Spring. The notice had the Department of Homeland Security’s crest in the upper left corner and claimed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would be on the premises starting Aug. 2.

It’s unclear when the notice was posted on the doors.

“After investigating the credibility of this notice it is our understanding that it is a hoax meant to upset residents. I will continue to monitor the situation and know that you can always reach out to my office with issues,” Jawando said.

Jawando encouraged residents in need of assistance with immigration-related issues to contact the Montgomery County Charles W. Gilchrist Immigrant Resource Center.

MyMCMedia was told that this incident was reported to the county executive’s office to investigate. The executive’s office couldn’t be reached for comment.
