Inaugural Community Police Academy for Spanish-Speaking Residents Graduates Sixteen Recruits (PHOTO)
The Montgomery County Community Police Academy has 16 new recruits after a graduation ceremony on Thursday night. Each participant will work to increase awareness and understanding about the police department among residents in the community.
The graduates participated in a 15-week academy conducted by Montgomery County police officers. Participants learned about criminal law, Maryland traffic law, investigations and more. The program is administered for both English and Spanish speakers, but this is the first Community Police Academy for Spanish-speaking residents. There is no cost associated with the program and participants must attend 12 out of 15 sessions to graduate.
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) plans to hold more Community Police Academies for English and Spanish-speaking residents in the near future. To learn more, visit the MCPD website.
