Ike Leggett to Discuss ‘Politics of Radical Inclusion’ with Montgomery College President

Former Montgomery County Executive Isiah “Ike” Leggett will join Montgomery College President DeRionne Pollard to discuss the “politics of radical inclusion” on April 30.

This conversation is part of the 2018-2019 presidential dialogue series, which aims to explore the complexities of inclusion in the face of a polarized political climate nationwide.

“Building communities in which everyone feels welcomed is a ‘radical’ ideal with many benefits, including higher academic achievement by students,” according to a statement from Montgomery College. “Inclusive practices contribute to safe, healthy, productive neighborhoods and schools, where diverse people and ideas flourish. The past year has seen a fracturing of such ideals.”

Leggett advocated for education, equity and human rights during his career as a public servant. In addition to his 12-year tenure as county executive, Leggett also served as a Montgomery County councilmember, a White House fellow, a Howard University Law professor and chair of the Human Rights Commission. The math and science center being built on Montgomery College’s Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus will be named after Leggett and his wife Catherine.

This free event starts at 7 p.m. in the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center on the Rockville campus.
