ICC Road Closures
Motorists driving on the Intercounty Connector (ICC)/MD 200 between MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) and Needwood Road will encounter temporary nighttime full road closures this week as construction crews continue work on three bridges over the ICC.
Periodically, crews will initiate road closures between midnight and 5 a.m. on May 1 (overnight Monday into the early hours of Tuesday morning) and May 2 (overnight Tuesday into the early hours of Wednesday morning). Closures will last no more than 20 minutes at a time. This work is weather contingent and may be canceled in the event of rain.
During the brief closure periods, eastbound ICC motorists will be allowed to enter the ICC at the I-370/Metro Access interchange and flagpersons will stop traffic prior to the first toll gantry. This will prevent motorists from being double-billed for one trip., Motorists traveling westbound on the ICC prior to Georgia Avenue will be diverted off the ICC onto Georgia Avenue during the closure period. Motorists will not be able to access the ICC westbound from Georgia Avenue during periods of closure.
The three bridges are located at MD 97, Emory Lane and Needwood Road. During full construction activity, expected to last into the summer, those three bridges and the ICC itself will remain open to traffic, with crews working out of travel lanes between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
The work on the bridges is to install steel rods in the pier caps which will ensure the durability of the bridges to the anticipated 50-75 year “life span.”
