House Fire Causes $800,000 in Damages in Kentlands
UPDATED Five firefighters were injured as they battled an overnight house fire in the Kentlands community of Gaithersburg, according to a Montgomery County fire official.
Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer said the two-alarm blaze at 113 Leekes Lot Way began in the chimney and extended to the roof and wood shingles.
Piringer said the first arriving firefighters encountered heavy fire and a partial roof collapse. He said the five injured firefighters were evaluated on site and transported to a local hospital as a precaution. Their injuries are not life threatening, he said. They have been treated and released, he added.
A resident in the home escaped uninjured, Piringer said.
According to Piringer, the two-story house blaze caused an estimated $800,000 in damages, including $600,000 in damages to the structure.
