Hoggle Again Ruled Incompetent to Stand Trial
Catherine Hoggle was once again ruled incompetent to stand trial on Friday. The woman faces two murder charges in connection with the disappearances of her two children four years ago.
The children — Sarah who was then 3 and Jacob who was then 2 — have never been found. They were reported missing, and Catherine Hoggle was charged in their disappearance.
She has been held at Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center in Jessup, where doctors have repeatedly found her incapable of assisting in her defense. Speaking from the bench on Friday, Judge Robert A. Greenberg mentioned Hoggle was on a new medication that her doctors believed could make her “restorable.”
The name of the medication was not mentioned. Her psychiatric file is sealed from public inspection. Greenberg ordered another review of Hoggle’s case on March 6, 2019.
Outside the court, the children’s father, Troy Turner, said the proceeding was “more of the same.” He said he’s believed she was restorable for four years.
“She’s completely competent. I have no question she has mental illness, but she’s completely competent to stand trial,” Turner said.
