Hogan to Sign Bill That Offers Free College Tuition

Gov. Larry Hogan is expected to sign legislation into law Tuesday that would grant free college tuition at community colleges in the state to qualifying residents.

The measure, passed during the 2018 legislative session, would provide tuition assistance for students with an annual gross income of not more than $90,000, if the applicant is single or resides in a single-parent household; or $125,000 if the applicant is married or resides in a two-parent household.

To qualify, applicants must be eligible for in-state tuition; have an overall high school grade point average of 2.0; and must enroll in at least 12 credits per semester at the community college.

Once signed, the bill will go into effect beginning in the 2019-2020 academic school year.
