Hogan Calls Lawmakers Back to Annapolis
Annapolis lawmakers have been called back to the State House to elect a new speaker of the House of Delegates.
The delegates are voting to choose the successor of Michael E. Busch, who died April 7, a day before the last day of the 90-day 2019 General Assembly session. The 72-year-old was the state’s longest serving Speaker.
Busch was laid to rest on Tuesday.
Hogan ordered the lawmakers into a special session that will begin Wednesday, May 1. The session comes at the request of the presiding officers of the State House, Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. and Del. Adrienne Jones, the speaker pro tem of the House.
News reports say Jones of Baltimore County is running for the seat, as are Del. Maggie McIntosh of Baltimore city and Del. Derrick Davis of Prince George’s County.
