Hogan Appoints Judges in Montgomery County Circuit Court

Magistrate James A. Bonifant and Kevin G. Hessler were appointed to the Montgomery County Circuit Court by Gov. Larry Hogan on Wednesday. Hogan made the appointments after reviewing submissions from the county’s judicial nominating commission.

Bonifant has been practicing law for more than 33 years, and now serves as the family division magistrate for the Circuit Court of Montgomery County. Before his appointment as a magistrate in 2013, Bonifant was in private practice in the area of civil litigation in Montgomery County, specializing in family law matters. He was a partner at the firm of Clifford, Debelius, Crawford & Bonifant. Bonifant received his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law, and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia.

Hessler has worked as a partner with Dragga, Hannon, Hessler & Willis, LLP since 1999. Before joining his current firm, Hessler worked as an associate and partner with Miller, Steinberg and Hessler, where he had a general practice and handled both civil and criminal cases. After graduating law school, Hessler was a judicial clerk for the Judge John J. Mitchell of the Circuit Court of Montgomery County, and then with Judge John P. Moore of the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland. Hessler received his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law and received his bachelor’s degree from Bucknell University.
