He’s Coming Home
Lebron James is the best basketball player in the world right now and will probably stay the best until the end of his career. King James has two NBA Finals MVP Awards, five NBA Finals appearances and two championship rings. Most of his success is found in South Beach playing for the Miami Heat but the four time NBA MVP announced he will be headed back to Cleveland next season. For those of you who don’t know, Lebron was raised in Northeast Ohio with aspirations of winning a title in his hometown. The King started his career with the Cavaliers but left after the 2009-2010 season to join forces with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. That was the start of the “Big 3” era which produced two Larry O’Brien trophies and ended with a NBA Finals beat down by Kawhi Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs. Miami Heat fans are feeling the pain of loosing Lebron just as the Cavaliers fans did four years ago. While the state of Ohio is filled with pure joy at this moment, south Florida is feeling disappointed and neglected. One fan said, “It is upsetting to see him go but I feel like we (Miami Heat) had a unfair advantage over the eastern conference with him (Lebron). He is in a better place now because Cleveland is his home. I will still support him wherever he plays because of the joy he has provided the city (Miami) with. This will also clear up a lot of confusion about who the real Miami fans are.” When I asked this fan if Miami would still be able to thrive without Lebron she said, “It will take some time but we (Miami) can still compete.”
Some fans took the King’s decision harder than others. Some people tweeted for Lebron to choke on his rings in Cleveland and some have even started trashing Lebron’s jersey. People have made videos of them burning Lebron’s jersey. After four years of happiness, Miami fans have finally felt the way that the Cavaliers did when “The Decision” came across the TV on ESPN. A lot of people wonder why everyone is expressing all of this emotion over a athlete. Well, this isn’t the first time this has happened in the world of sports. When Wes Welker left the Patriots to join the Broncos the whole New England region went into chaos. When Desean Jackson chose the Redskins over the Eagles the city of Philadelphia went bonkers. Does anyone remember how much the city of Orlando despised Dwight Howard when he decided to go to the Lakers? I just hope that Pat Riley can keep his calm and not pull a Dan Gilbert… All of Miami is “heated” about Lebron’s choice but for Cleveland… A new era has begun.
The really question is if the NBA Eastern Conference can win a championship against the abundance of talent in the Western Conference.
