Heroes Convention 30th Anniversary

I spent the weekend in beautiful Charlotte, NC at the Heroes Convention. While this was my first time attending this wonderful show it certainly won’t be my last!

In addition to speaking with the likes of Roy Thomas, Marv Wolfman, Paul Levitz, Louise Simonson and Ivan Reis I enjoyed the pleasure of getting convention founder, Shelton Drum on camera. This is the 30th anniversary for Heroes and it has grown into one of the premiere comic conventions in the US. Shelton, who is also the owner of the Heroes Aren’t Hard To Find store, has done a masterful job in organizing the show. His ability to attract quality special guests such as Stan Lee goes a long way to keeping the North Carolina comic faithful happy! And everyone in attendance experienced first hand that well known southern congeniality and hospitality.

My mother is a native of North Carolina and so I’m no stranger to the state. In fact, she did her undergraduate work in Charlotte. We still have family there and I felt right at home. Kudos to Shelton and his fabulous staff and volunteers for putting on a wonderful convention. And I even got to meet a costuming FB friend face to face. Keep an eye out for some of the terrific interview footage in upcoming episodes of FANTASTIC FORUM. My thanks to Marc Nathan of the Baltimore Comic-Con for talking up this con and to Ben Penrod of Awesome Conventions for his great company this weekend. Awesome has The Southern Maryland Comic Con coming up in just two weeks. This is one to attend for sure. Keep watching, the best is yet to come.
